Here's a chance for you to have a say in the future of public transport. The Legislative Council has just set up a parliamentary inquiry into options for an integrated sustainable public transport system in Southern Tasmania, with particular reference to (1) the public bus transport system currently operated by Metro Tasmania; and (2) any other appropriate and innovative transport systems.  Anybody can send in a submission. Please make a few dot points if you are pressed for time, pressing the urgent need for governments to respond to both climate change and peak oil with sound public transport policies. Issues that could be raised include cross subsidies with road infrastructure, ferries on the Derwent, light rail, integrated ticketing across modes of transport, bus lanes, what to do with the rail corridor, the need for government to develop a comprehensive Transport Plan etc. A good information resource is this website:  http://www.ptua.org.au/publications/.  Submissions can be forwarded to Committee Secretary Mr Stuart Wright – stuart.wright@parliament.tas.gov.au
