 Community wind farm Action on climate change

Meet up with other Tasmanians who care about a safe climate future and find out how you can take effective action on climate change - action that governments are powerless to stop.  Learn from and share with local and national experts, including Al Gore trained presenters, how you can:

- Undermine the fossil fuel industry, one bank account and one super scheme at a time
- Be your own energy powerhouse, independent or in community
- Take control of your food - and live healthier
- Change your local community
- Change the political system

Getting our SOHO community bank off the ground

If you are keen to play a role in getting our SOHO Community Bank off the ground please come along to our next coffee get together, from 9.30 - 10.30am this Saturday 11 October in the upstairs room of the Macquarie Street Foodstore.

A Bendigo Bank Community Bank branch number has been allocated to the SOHO Community Bank, so if you are keen to move your banking to the branch number - which will help add to the pledges we will need to get the project up and running - please contact Keridan.Taylor@bendigoadelaide.com.au

Ride2Work Day is fast approaching. As Australia's Biggest National Riding Program, Ride2Work Day encourages people to contemplate, prepare for and trial riding to work, then to maintain that behaviour after the event. Growers gathering

Our next Growers Gathering is at Cindy's new garden 21A Grayling Avenue South Hobart. There's not much parking up the drive, so please park on the street and walk the 30 meters to the house. Bring something to share for afternoon tea. All welcome. Bring any excess seedlings, recommended seeds, excess produce or plants and all things gardeny to swap and share. As always, this is not expected or compulsory! You are the most important thing to bring, with your garden interest, experience, questions and presence. Call 6224 3211 for any more queries.

Hobart Rivulet Seeking community views - upgrade of the Hobart Rivulet Track

The HCC is seeking the community’s views on a proposal to upgrade the Hobart Rivulet Track to a concrete, shared use path extending between the park entrance at Molle Street in the City and Tara Street. ‘Stop and Talk’ at the information totems near the Anglesea Street bridge, South Hobart, 12–1.00pm. Friday, 10 October and the Molle Street park entrance, 4.30-5.30pm, Wednesday, 15 October. ‘Walk and Talk’ leaving from the Molle Street park entrance and information totem, 3pm, Sunday, 12 October. Comment on our SHSC draft submission.

Refuges for mammalian wildlife survey
Dr Anke Frank from the University of Tasmania is interest to know how we can provide refuges for mammalian wildlife within and at the fringes of Hobart. Bush Fire Community Plans

Monday 10 November

Preparing your own home for serious bush fires during the summer is important, so too is preparing community plans that consider how the community can react to serious bush fire threats. The Tas Fire Service will be holding a special bush fire forum to help South Hobartians get moving on this. The event will be held at Cascades Brewery 7pm to 8:30pm. You’ll need to register, so keep an eye on our website where it will be advertised.
