2016 SHSC Inc. AGM
Saturday 8 October, 3pm

South Hobart Community Garden, Cascade Road (up the back of the large carpark opposite the Badminton Centre)

Join us for a quick AGM (last year's only took 15 minutes) followed by a garden party (i.e. bubbles, nibbles) and children welcome. We've secured funding for a garden shelter, so would love to hear your ideas for it!

Also, if anyone is interested in taking a role on the SHSC Facilitators group, please contact us via secretary@southhobart.org

We'd love to hear from anyone able to assist in communications, that can fill the vacant Secretary role (estimated average commitment of 1 hour per fortnight)

Please mark the date and come along to make sure we have a quorum (based on RSVPs to date, we need another 10 people).

Hobart Rivulet Park reopened

The Hobart Rivulet Park between Molle and McKellar Streets has reopened. The redeveloped track is an average of 3m wide, with a concrete aggregate surface, textured to provide grip on wet days.

The Council thanks the South Hobart community for its patience with the delayed completion of this development.

There will be a formal opening for the path, which is expected to take place in October.

Petition to City of Hobart re improvements to D'Arcy St, Washington St, Cascade Road "roundabout"

City of Hobart is considering minor maintenance to the "roundabout" at this busy intersection. Due to a number of near-misses from pedestrians trying to cross between the shops and Hospital, or the playground/soccer ground, a number of residents feel that a safer crossing is necessary. The existing kerb ramps are difficult for wheelchairs and strollers to easily transition from footpath to road and back. The lack of defined crossing paths, or different surface treatments, makes it hard for drivers to know where to give way.

If you also feel that improvement is needed, then please pop into the Macquarie Street Supermarket (Cascade Road/Darcy St IGA) or Ginger Brown to sign a petition to HCC to ask them to improve the safety of this "roundabout". If we don't request this now, there is a risk that the maintenance work will entrench the existing flaws.

Sustainable Living Festival - The Future Could be Awesome

Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November, 10am - 5pm

The Future Could Be Awesome reflects this years vibrant Sustainable Living Festival. This year's program features a story slam, poetry slam, and "The Sketches" - an energetic hybrid of impromptu theatrics, "speak-singing" in an Australian accent, and cheeky on-stage repartee. Aside from these highlights, there will be the usual delicious cooking demonstrations, informative talks, practical workshops, live music, art installations, kids activities and exhibits from local businesses and community groups.
