Garden fees

In maintaining our garden and opening it up to the community, we need certain infrastructure and insurance in place:

  • public liability insurance (approx $30 per year per small plot)

  • robust fencing

  • lawn mowing, raking, weeding, pruning, trimming and tip fees

  • composting infrastructure

  • wood preservation oils for shed, shelter

  • sand for sandpit

  • replacement tools and maintenance of wheel barrows

  • signage

We rely on plot fees and working bees to cover all these areas.

2022/23 plot fees and working bee obligations under the SHSC Gardener's Agreement:

4 working bees per year working on community maintenance and composting; OR
4 sessions of community garden maintenance outside working bee times (pre-arrange this with the Garden Committee - send email proposal to: communitygarden@southhobart.org); OR
$40 working bee waiver (no need to attend any working bees).

PLUS annual plot fees -

$50 in July ($35 Services Australia Health Care Cardholders) for small plot
$85 in July ($70 Services Australia Health Care Cardholders) for large plot

People who are allocated a plot from January onwards have 2 working bees and 50% of plot fees due.
